The Essential 10 Point Checklist for Buying or Hiring a Projector

Looking to buy or hire a projector? Here are 10 key aspects to consider before you put pen to paper.

1.Future Use
Before choosing any projector, figure out its intended application and what its future use will be.

2.Placement
Where are the screens to be placed? Do you need one large screen across the stage, or would you require one screen on either side of the presenter?

3.Size
Many people believe the bigger the better, but you’ll be affecting point #1 with this thinking. Consider the size you need relative to its future use and buy accordingly.

4.Natural Light
How much natural light comes into the space impacts on the ansi-lumens or brightness of the projector.

5.Front Projection
When using front projection, an important aspect to be aware of is noise of the fans in the projector.

6.Lens
To achieve maximum brightness, use the shortest throw lens possible without distortion.

7.Multiple Projectors
For those planning on using multiple projectors, consider if all will show the same picture, or if you need image on one screen and graphics on another?

8.Cabling
What cabling is needed from the switches to projector? DVi, SDi, HDMi, Cat5 or VGA wiring?

9.On/Off

How do you intend switching projectors on and off? Do you intend leaving them on 24/7, or switching them off at certain times during the day?

10.Upgrade
Revert back to #1 and decide if the projector you choose can be upgraded in future.
